Subject: Aplia Is Looking To Hire

Hi David,

I'm writing to ask a favor. Aplia is expanding so once again we’re looking to hire new college graduates. We’ve had great success with students recommended to us by our users. They have been great employees and they’ve found that Aplia is a good place to work.

As a small startup, we can offer many different tasks to a new employee, with lots of opportunity for someone to take on new responsibilities. For example, Lyssa started in editorial, moved to customer support, became manager of the customer support department, and now is in charge of product development. Others have worked with us for several years and then gone back to school. Adi is in the graduate program in economics at the University of Chicago. Larry is starting the MBA program at USC this fall.

We are looking for undergraduates who will be graduating this spring. We currently have entry level positions open in editorial, sales, sales support, customer support, and internal IT support for hardware and software systems. Key requirements for any of these positions are:

  • A strong background in economics, at least at the level of an undergraduate economics major. (Except for someone interested in the IT position, where a computer science degree would be a good substitute.)
  • A strong appetite for challenges and the organizational skills required to master them. (As evidence, we look students with good grades in tough classes.  (We do look at the types of courses taken and grades in these courses, not the overall GPA.)
  • Good people skills.

Other characteristics that would be helpful but are not required include:

  • Courses in mathematics, statistics, or computer science
  • Familiarity with computer hardware and software
  • Experience with Aplia

If you know any students who might be a good match, could you email me at promer@aplia.com or ask the student to write to me at this same address. Thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Paul
