ECON BC3063 (01) Senior Seminar: The Economics of Race

Instructor: Rajiv Sethi, Fall 2003

This course is concerned with racial identity and its economic consequences. We shall pay particular attention to three phenomena: (i) racial segregation in residential patterns, (ii) racial inequality in education and wealth, and (iii) racial profiling in markets and social interactions. Rather than looking at each of these phenomena in isolation, we shall examine the ways in which they are interrelated. Readings for the course include both theoretical and empirical contributions by economists and other social scientists.
