What is the purpose of work? Is it merely a regrettable necessity or is it necessary to the fulfilment of human beings? Do standard economists correctly understand motivations to work? How should the workplace function in a good society? How should a good society distribute both unpleasant work and desirable work? What is the appropriate role of authority and resistance to authority in the good workplace? What has been the history of work? How do understandings of work vary across societies? What is likely to be the future of work? What *should* be the future of work and how can it be realized?

These are among the questions that we may collectively try to explore during the semester.
