ECON BC3041 - Theoretical Foundations of Political Economy

Instructor: Prof. André Burgstaller, Fall 2003

This course develops central concepts of political economy from an intensive reading of Adam Smith, Thomas Malthus, David Ricardo, Karl Marx, and John Maynard Keynes. The goal is to learn to see the world as it appeared to these authors. In doing so, we gain a critical perspective on contemporary economic theory.

Students will write three short papers (5 pages maximum), each counting 25% of the semester grade. A final examination (25%) will require an integrated understanding of the entire course.
