ECON BC3011 Inequality and Poverty Instructor: Sanjay Reddy, Spring 2004 This
course surveys the complex and expansive topic of inequality and poverty,
attempting a holistic perspective. The course combines evidence and analytical
techniques from economics and sociology and includes a survey of philosophical
reasoning on the subject. The interplay of empirical assessments
and ethical reasoning in the field will be given special attention. The
course will review debates concerning the current profile of poverty and
inequality as well as their possible causes and solutions. It will consider
inequality and poverty in both rich and poor countries, and in the world
considered as a whole. |
