ECON BC3011 Inequality and Poverty

This course surveys the complex and expansive topic of inequality and poverty, attempting a holistic perspective. The course combines evidence and analytical techniques from economics and sociology and includes a survey of philosophical reasoning on the subject.  The interplay of empirical assessments and ethical reasoning in the field will be given special attention. The course will review debates concerning the current profile of poverty and inequality as well as their possible causes and solutions. It will consider inequality and poverty in both rich and poor countries, and in the world considered as a whole.
